Texas Historic Barns
The history of barns, from the way they were built, style, and rich family history to their multiple uses today, is facsintating. Barns date as far back as the early 1800's in the United States. Historic barns can be found across rural Texas and represent community and family, agricultural hertigage, and encompass the strength and economy of past Texas farmers and ranchers. The construction of each barn was built with innovation, common sense, purpose, and economy in mind to serve the farmer’s needs foremost.
Sadly, lack of preservation and proper restoration is causing the number of historic barns to slowly decline. There are several coalitions that are working to preserve these historic barns to help save America's original founders history and the hardworking ethic that we are built upon.
Below is a collection of history barns with information and links to their rich history. Some of these barns can still be toured today to appreciate the hard work and ingenuity that farmers of past generations set forth for generations to follow.
